FAQ
What is HypnoBirthing?
Read my introduction to HypnoBirthing here.
Who is HypnoBirthing suitable for?
HypnoBirthing is suitable for first time mums and mums who've had children before.
It can help women who are scared of birth because they've never done it before, who are anxious because of a bad experience last time, or who just want a calmer, easier, more natural birth experience.
Will I be 'out of it' if I use HypnoBirthing?
Not at all. With HypnoBirthing you are aware of what is going on around you but you can just 'tune out' the distractions.
I'm scared of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Is HypnoBirthing safe?
Hypnosis is absolutely safe and nothing to be scared of.
Can you guarantee a completely pain-free labour and birth?
I'm afraid not. However, as a guide, around 65-70% of HypnoBirthing mums don't need any form of pain relief. Nearly all the mums in this category simply don't experience any pain - just pressure.
Around a further 20-25% only require something mild, like gas and air.
The remaining 5-10% usually fall into what could be termed 'special circumstances', where medical intervention is required.
When and where do you run your HypnoBirthing classes?
My classes are arranged at a date and time to suit you and are usually held at The Centre for Natural Health in Wickford.

Will I be part of a group or do you teach individual couples?
I have found that couples prefer the privacy of one-to-one sessions so that is what I teach.
How do the classes work and how much does it cost?
Typically the course is structured as five two-and-a-half-hour classes held at weekly intervals. However, the course structure can be tailored to suit your personal circumstances.
My private course for individual couples costs £190
Further details of the class content can be found here.
Is there a HypnoBirthing home-study course that I could buy?
There are no authorised HypnoBirthing home-study courses.
Where can I buy the book?
If you cannot attend the HypnoBirthing classes, it is possible to buy the book on its own from amazon.co.uk.
When should I start the classes?
Somewhere between 25-30 weeks is ideal. However, provided you can finish the course before you give birth, it's still going to help.
Does my partner have to attend the classes?
I would strongly recommend so. However, if your partner cannot attend all the classes, help you practice or attend the birth, you may wish to ask your sister, mother or close friend to be your birthing companion.
